Bridge Deck Joints

Often the most punished element in a bridge, good joint design, materials selection and some maintenance should see deck joints perform well into the future.  For existing joints that haven't performed well, remedial works can be designed with the latest products and materials to return the site back to an asset rather than a liability.

A failed joint allows road surface run off into the superstructure and substructure below.  At least in the Australian environment road de-icing salts are not present.

Full inspection information of the condition and performance of the superstructure articulation concerning bearing movement and deterioration should also be reviewed if a joint replacement is required.
